Making it Easier to Connect

what is online therapy?

Some people prefer the convenience of logging in and having the support they need without ever having to leave the house. In this time of social distancing having the flexible option of therapy in the privacy of your own home removes barriers and for some feels safer. We are social creatures wired to connect and while online therapy may not be a good fit for some, it can be a refreshing way to securely bridge the gap in treatment options for others.

how does it work?

Just like in person sessions, your confidentiality and privacy are important. I provide you with a link to a HIPAA compliant format where you enter a ‘waiting room’ and at your appointment time I will join you. Yes, it’s that easy!

Who might be a good fit for online therapy?

Initially the two primary things to consider with telehealth:

1) Do you have good internet service? It is recommended that high speed internet provides the best experience. There’s nothing like being mid cry and freezing or having to repeat what you said because I only saw your mouth move but had no sound.

2) Do you have a private space at home free of interruptions? Feeling emotionally safe to be with whatever you’re feeling can be impacted by having others in the home. Sometimes your system will feel limited if it knows the kids, pets or your spouse could walk in at anytime. That’s not to say that you have to be home alone because you may feel more comfortable if you know a loved one is nearby, so notice which is true for you.

Earphones and a desktop/laptop are ideal however you can certainly connect with your phone or tablet if needed. If initial criteria is met then your history and current symptoms are considered for fit. Have I talked you out of it yet? That’s definitely not my intention. I do want to rule out any issues that would take away from you getting what you need. Online therapy is for decreasing barriers not adding them.
